Somewhere in the midst of this mild weather is the winter of 2015-2016. Let's hope that Phil the groundhog is right and that we will have an early spring! We will definitely have an early Lent and Easter this year. Ash Wednesday is February 10th and Easter will be celebrated on March 27th. The readings from The Common Lectionary this month are as follows:
Feb. 7 - Transfiguration Sunday
Exodus 34:29-35, Psalm 99, 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2, Luke 9:28-36
Feb. 14 - First Sunday in Lent (also Valentine's Day)
Deut. 26:1-11, Psalm 91:1-2,9-16, Romans 10:8-13, Luke 4:1-13
Feb. 21 - Second Sunday in Lent
Genesis 15:1-12,17-18, Psalm 27, Phil. 3:17-4:1, Luke 13:31-35
Feb. 28 - Third Sunday in Lent
Isaiah 55:1-9, Psalm 63:1-8, 1 Corinthians 10:1-13, Luke 13:1-9
We will have a Lenten Program that will include some Sunday night worship services and coffee fellowship and some Wednesday night studies continuing our discussion of Dr. Timothy Keller's book, The Reason for God. On the Wednesday nights we will begin with a potluck meal at 6:30 and divide into small groups at 7:00. The Sunday night worship services will begin at 6:00. Look elsewhere in this newsletter for more information about this Lenten Program.
The American cultural centerpiece - the Super Bowl - will take place on Sunday night, February 7th. It will be the 50th Super Bowl and will include a game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. The young Cam Newton against the old (39 years!) Peyton Manning. Let us enjoy this special event as the amazing world experience it has become. Even if football for you is only Ohio State, it is nice to know that there will be several OSU alumni playing in this one.
Stay warm and dry,
