Over the Coffee
It is February and the winter is cold, the parking lot at church has been icy a great
number of days, attendance has been low on Sunday and Wednesday – and we have six
more weeks of this according to Punxsutawney Phil. We are a bit spoiled after the mild
winter last year and I guess we will just have to put our heads down and bear it. At least
we have the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day.
Lent comes early this year. Ash Wednesday is February 14th and Easter comes on
April 1st this year. Due to the weather and the early start of Lent, the new teams and
council and myself have not finalized plans for our Lenten Program. What I will
propose is a series on Wednesdays in place of Bible study that will include a short
devotional, some Bible study, and a very light Lenten lunch – beginning on Ash
Wednesday (Feb. 14th) and continuing on Wednesdays through March 21st. We can start
at 11:00 a.m. as usual and be done before 12:30 p.m. We will skip March 28th since we
usually have our Upper Room service on Maundy-Thursday and that will be on March
29th. Final details coming soon.
