Over Coffee - October 2017,

The last quarter of 2017 is here! The year has, as it seems it does these days,

moved along quickly and now we are in the time of fall leaf colors and brisk mornings.

A neighbor of mine says that he is hoping we have lots of snow this winter (he has a

little pre-school daughter) and I responded that it would be OK for a white Christmas,

but I will take the moderate temps if they come. But fall is special.

Instead of listing the Common Lectionary this month (I will let you look that up

yourselves on-line if you are following things), I thought I would use this space to

promote the very important programming that we have coming this month:

First of all, we have our ABC of Ohio Annual Gathering in the Crowne Plaza –

Columbus North. This will be held October 3-4 and the theme is “Transformed by the

Journey.” The keynote speaker is Dr. William Shiell, the president of Northern Baptist

Theological Seminary. You can consult the ABC of Ohio website for details.

Secondly, we are hosting the Third Annual Multicultural Service for the Columbus

Baptist Association on October 8th at 4:00 p.m. This worship service will be a special

celebration of our unity in Christ and I will be giving a message from Galatians 3:28

with the title, “Celebrating Unity in a Diversity Time.” I hope that all of you will come

and be part of this. The support of our congregation will go a long way toward making

that unity a reality. Nancy Bootes is preparing a delightful and tasty dinner for us to

share in the Fellowship Hall afterwards. There will be a combined CBA choir singing,

as well as traditional hymns.

Thirdly, in honor of the 500th Anniversary of the start of the Reformation, we will

be having an All-Church Breakfast on October 22nd at 9:30 a.m. There will be a movie

shown during breakfast that highlights the Reformation. We are still screening some

movies to find the right one to fit in that time slot.

Fourthly, we will be celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation at a

luncheon on October 29th at noon. This will take place right after the morning worship

service and it will give additional historical highlights for your consideration. Carol

Miller has completed two new banners for this month's celebrations. Come and share in

these special times. You will be blessed!
