Over The Coffee - July 2016

Wow!  The summer is moving fast.  We did enjoy a special movie as a congregation last month – the movie Polycarp – and we will probably do another one this summer.  I have had a few days off and look forward to seeing my son’s on July 4th.  Just got the word this week of the passing of Millie Baldridge at the age of 90.  Gale and Millie were special friends and since North Baptist has only had seven pastors (and spouses) in our nearly seven decade history, this is a special moment for us.  Prayers go out to each of their children who grew up at North.

We continue in the book of Acts for the summer and the dates for our worship services and scripture passages follows –

July 3          Acts 5:1-11 – “God Knows!?”

July 10        Rev. Kirk Gay speaking

July 17        Acts 5:12-42 – “The Successful Surge Continues”

July 24        Acts 6:1-8:1 – “Obstacle Course Faith”

July 31        Acts 8:1-40 – “Responding to the Spirit”

The Common Lectionary Readings for the month are as follows (though we will not be using these texts in worship this summer – you may enjoy anyway):

July 3                   2 Kings 5:1-14, Psalm 66:1-9, Galatians 6:7-16, Luke 10:1-11,16-20

July 10        Amos 7:7-17, Psalm 25:1-10, Colossians 1:1-14, Luke 10:25-37

July 17        Amos 8:1-12, Psalm 15, Colossians 1:15-28, Luke 10:38-42

July 24        Hosea 1:2-10, Psalm 138, Colossians 2:6-15, Luke 11:1-13

July 31        Hosea 11:1-11, Psalm 49:1-12, Colossians 3:1-11, Luke 12:13-21

It has been good to see the children in the day care as they play on our playground and on the lawn.  They are quite active, yet at times during the day they can be seen reading books intently and listening to stories read by the staff.  We are finding what it is like to partner with the Clintonville Resource Center on things beyond the food pantry and clothing closet.  On July 17th we will have a Praise and Joy worship service (P&J) that will be highlighted by filling a table in the sanctuary with peanut butter and jelly for CRC.
