Over The Coffee - June 2016

The experience of summer is here, even if the actual start of the season does not

happen for a few weeks yet. Kids are out of school, swimming pools are open, and

the temperatures have approached high 80's a few days. Here at North Baptist Church

we are excited about several things. One is the new Clintonville Resource Center

(CRC) Day Care for school age children that will be using our lower level classrooms

and playground as one of several church sites this summer. As many as 30 children

will be dropped off by parents beginning on June 6th, many from our neighborhood.

CRC will provide the program and so you will see them around the building this

summer. Our programming will have first choice on use of building, but I anticipate

that we can work cooperatively together. Another change in programming is that we

are taking a break from our Wednesday Bible Study for the summer, and in the Bible

Fellowship class that I teach we will be looking at the book of Acts over the summer

rather than the Common Lectionary. You can still read the Lectionary Readings on

your own: !

June 5 1 Kings 17:8-24, Psalm 146, Galatians 1:11-24, Luke 7:11-17

June 12 1 Kings 21:1-21, Psalm 5:1-8, Galatians 2:15-21, Luke 7:36-8:3

June 19 1 Kings 19:1-15, Psalm 42, Galatians 3:23-29, Luke 8:26-39

June 26 2 Kings 2:1-14; Psalm 77:1-20; Galatians 5:1, 13-25; Luke 9:51-62

We will take our One Great Hour of Sharing offering during the month of June

with an emphasis on the theme during worship on June 19th. The theme is “Where

you go I will go...” from Ruth 1:16. What a timely theme during these perilous days

for so many refugees around the world, many who will receive some assistance either

directly or indirectly through OGHS.

Scripture and messages for June include:

June 5 Acts 3:1-26 “Stirring Things Up”

June 12 Acts 4:1-31 “The Line in the Sand”

June 19 Ruth 1:16 “Where You Go I Will Go”

June 26 Acts 4:32-37 “Sharing Everything”

Enjoy the summer,

Pastor Cy
